700 persons caught driving under the influence during “Bahus” operation
The Traffic Police summed up the results of the special operation “Bahus”. About 700 inebriated drivers have been identified during a month. “As the traffic police officers do not examine all the drivers, the number of persons driving under the influence can be much higher,” spokeswoman for the Traffic Police Dana Andronic has told Info-Prim Neo.
A number of 489 administrative cases and 190 criminal cases have been started in the period.
Under the legislation, the drivers whose blood contains over 0.3 g/l of alcohol are liable to a fine of 12,000 to 20,000 lei, 200 to 240 hours of community service or up to four years' imprisonment. The inebriated drivers are deprived of license for a period of three to five years in all the cases.
According to police statistics, 7% of the road accidents in Moldova are caused by drivers who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
