Alexander Rybak to perform in Chisinau on City Day

A great show is planned by the Chisinau authorities for the City’s Patron Saint Day on October 14. Norway’s Alexander Rybak, the winner of the 2009 Eurovision song contest, will be invited to perform alongside other foreign artists, including Romania's Loredana Groza, Andreea Banica and Paula Seling, and Russian singer Alfiya Korotaeyva, Info-Prim Neo reports. Lucia Culev, head of the municipal Culture Division, told the City Hall’s meeting on Monday that the City Day festivities will begin this week with the choir music festival “A ruginit frunza din vii”, which will host ensembles from Latvia, Hungary, Georgia and other countries. A drawing contest and other festivities will also be organized this week. The “Chisinau Open” international competition will take place on October 13 and October 14, organized by the “Condreanca” dance club. On October 13, the National Palace will host a show featuring renowned composer Eugen Doga. Celebrations on October 14 will start with a traditional religious service and flower-laying at Stefan cel Mare statue. The holiday will be officially inaugurated at 12:00 in the Great National Assembly Square, and each city’s district will be represented by a traditional decorated platform. Author Spiridon Vangheli and Academician Mihai Cimpoi will be awarded the “Honorary Citizen” title during the opening ceremony. In the afternoon, the show will go on in the Great National Assembly Square with the Advahov Brothers, Zinaida Julea and Mihai Ciobanu’s performances. Afterwards, the mood will liven up with Catalin Josan, Loredana Groza and Andreea Banica and others.
