The menu model set by the Ministry of Health is not respected in some of the kindergartens in Chisinau. There are institutions where the children receive porridge and pasta three times a day, while the vegetables and fruit are absent. These are some of the conclusions of the working group that was set up following requests made by parents. This carried out checks for three weeks, IPN reports.

According to the head of the Chisinau Public Health Center Luminita Suveica, as a result of inspections it was determined that some of the kindergartens replace fresh fruit with juices and this is not right. The bread, pressed cheese, pasta and patisserie products prevail in the menus. The menu is thus based on lipids and carbohydrates and this can lead to obesity or cardiovascular diseases.

The 23 lei allocated for food for a child a day is too small. Luminita Suveica said the legislative provisions should be amended so that products could be bought directly from the producer, not from intermediaries as the prices are thus higher. It was determined that the natural norms for a child a day were calculated incorrectly. There were also identified disagreements between the data presented by accounting offices and those furnished by directors and particular restrictions imposed by accounting offices.

As a result, there were issued prescriptions with time limits by which the identified irregularities should be removed. New checks will be performed later and the responsible persons will be penalized if these continue to exist.

This fall, the Chisinau Public Health Center will publish on its website the menu model so that the parents know it and inform the Center about discrepancies.

From September 4 during a month, the Center’s specialists will examine alimentation in schools.
