Anatol Codru memorial plate unveiled in Chisinau
Poet and director Anatol Codru will have a memorial plate in Chisinau. It was unveiled on Friday, November 9, on the building where the artist had lived, in Botanica sector, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a press release of the City Hall, Anatol Codru made a name for himself as a director of documentaries. His first film “Tranta” was shot in 1968. Since 1971, he worked as director at the cinema studio Moldova-Film. Between 1993 and 2003 he was chairman of the Filmmakers’ Union of Moldova.
Anatol Codru was elected honorary member of the Nika International Film Academy from Russia and honorary member of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, the specialization Literature, film directing. He was awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa title by the International Academy of Economic Law and Film Art.
He debuted as a poet in his student years with the volume of poetry “Blue nights” (1962), which was followed by six others “The obduracy of stone” (1967), “Sons” (1971), “Portrait in stone” (1978), “Reading stone” (1980), “The personal myth” (1986) and the “The vault of the word” (1997).
Anatol Codru died from an incurable disease on 17 August 2010, aged 74.
