Another levee bursts in Causeni district

Two houses were damaged in Zviozdochka village of Causeni district after a levee burst. The water didn’t reach the two houses, but fissures appeared in the walls owing to the high level of moisture. This is the second levee that burst in Causeni district. The levee in Opaci yielded in the evening of July 4. The local authorities decided to evacuate the dwellers of a number of houses that may be flooded, IPN reports.

The information was made public by Liliana Vitu, spokeswoman for Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. In the morning of July 5, the Premier convened the commission for emergencies to discuss the situation and possibilities of toughening up punishments for persons who own ponds, but do not reinforce the levees so that they do not cause floods.

Iurie Leanca instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry to determine the crop fields threatened by floods.

In Opaci village, the floods damaged eight bridges of 12 and the roads there are impassable. About 100 wells were inundated and the water in them is now undrinkable. A working group of the Ministry of Regional Development will assess the 29 damaged homes to see if they can be repaired. The families were housed by relatives and villagers.

Liliana Vitu said that according to the State Hydrometeorology Service, there are no risks of floods on the Nistru and Prut Rivers.
