SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” will replace 200 km of networks with an advanced wear degree and over 3,500 branch pipes in the municipal housing stock within an investment project of about €62 million. The financing agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) was signed in Chisinau on February 7, IPN reports.
SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” director Constantin Becciev said the project will be implemented in two stages. At the first stage, the works to rehabilitate the water pipes will be the most important component, while at the second – the works to rehabilitate and modernize the Chisinau wastewater treatment station. The current method of drying mud with the help of geo-tubes will be replaced with the mechanical drying method, by producing biogas, electricity and heat. The works will include the rehabilitation of 15 km of sewer pipes. There will be built and repaired about 50 artesian wells that will be used in emergencies on the Nistru River.
It is also planned to build the first factory for producing sodium hypochlorite, which is used to treat drinking water. Constantin Becciev assured that the investments in the Chisinau water supply system will not generate rises in water charges.
The loan of €62 million provided by the EBRD and EIB includes a grant of €14 million.
