“Apa-Canal Chisinau” to build factory for producing sodium hypochlorite

SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” will erect the first factory for producing sodium hypochlorite in Moldova. The sodium hypochlorite is used to treat the drinking water and it is now brought from Romania, IPN reports.

Owing to the unfavorable weather conditions last week, two trucks of the Chisinau water supplier got stuck in the snowdrifts in Buza region. Thus, there was a risk of temporarily returning to the use of gaseous chlorine in treating the water.

According to the company’s director Constantin Becciev, the project to build the factory in Chisinau is one of the main projects that is financially supported by the EBRD and EIB, which offered a loan of €62 million to the water supplier, €14 million of which in the form of a grant.

The factory will be built at the Water Treatment Station located on Studentilor St in Rascani district. The feasibility study was carried out in 2012 by the French company Seureca, being financed by the EU.
