Awareness-raising activities on International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family will carry out a number of activities centering on the social inclusion of persons with disabilities between November 30 and December 11, on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities that is marked on December 3, Info-Prim Neo reports. Minister of Labor Valentina Buliga told a news conference that the aim of the events is to raise the people’s awareness. “There are no other countries alongside Moldova that have institutions with over 300 disabled persons in their care,” she stated. On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, over 80,000 persons will receive assistance from the national social support fund. A sum of 21 million lei was allocated for the purpose. The assistance will be distributed through the local social support funds, which will select the beneficiaries and determine the size of the allowances. There are 179,000 persons with disabilities in Moldova, 14,000 of whom are children. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed December 3 as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on October 14, 1992.
