Balti authorities start project to reorganize public transport

The administration of Balti municipality initiated a complex project to reorganize the urban public transport. According to acting mayor of Balti Octavian Mahu, the project envisions not only the optimization of the public transport system, but also the ensuring of road safety, repair of roads, building of parking lots and modification of the public transport routes, IPN reports.

It is also planned to replace the minibuses with large-capacity vehicles so as to reduce traffic. Furthermore, there were already modified the routes of minibuses that had the same itineraries as the buses and trolleybuses. Only 70% of the minibuses that transported passengers several months ago are now involved in traffic.

Octavian Mahu said the given changes were dictated by the contract that the Balti mayor’s office signed with the EBRD for taking out a loan of €3 million for purchasing 23 new trolleybuses. The higher the number of people who will benefit from electric transport services, the faster will the local Trolleybus Division be able to repay this loan.
