Balti man vows to protest 'till death' outside Unions quarters

Vladimir Gaidau of Balti is resolute to “protest till death” outside the Unions building, seeking redress for what he calls an unfair dismissal. He also protests against the consent the unions had given to his sacking and wants answers to his earlier petitions. Vladimir Gaidau says he was fired after 23 years of working as a ticket salesman at the Balti train station. The reason for which he was fired – repeated breach of discipline – is untrue, he asserts. Since then, he has sent a multitude of complaints to various authorities, but to little avail. The head of the Balti train station, Valentin Stantieri, told Info-Prim Neo that Gaidau had been fired for disciplinary violations which occurred during one year of service and therefore he could not be restored to his previous job. The protester says that he has sent at least 7 letters to the president of the National Unions Confederation, Leonid Manea, where he seeks the cancellation of the decision issued by the union committee concerning the consent to sack him. Gaidau also claims that Oleg Budza, the vice president of the Confederation, told him that he had lost 7 lawsuits, none of which he had been announced. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Budza refrained from commenting on the subject, saying that the a final decision hasn't been made concerning the case. Vladimir Gaidau lives with his disabled son on a 300 lei unemployment benefit and a 170 lei disability allowance.
