The persons from the administration of the company Caravita were arrested in particular political circumstances and their blame hasn’t been yet proven. That’s why they enjoy the guarantees provided by the principle of presumption of innocence, including on the part of the mass media. This is said in a press release of the Bar Association “Popa & Asociatii”.
“The placing under arrest as a preventive measure does not represent proving of the blame. Moreover, the solutions of the court of law are unfounded given that the prosecution body presented no conclusive evidence or elements showing there are reasonable suspicions that those who were arrested committed the deed of which they are accused. The alleged ‘schemes’ presented by the anticorruption prosecutors and the statements made by the representatives of the National Anticorruption Center concerning the involvement of our clients in the laundering of money from Banca de Economii (BEM) represent purely subjective views, while the necessity of involving the FBI in this case is exaggerated. The documents provided to the defense show the cooperation with the FBI is limited to informative correspondence whose relevance to this case is now ambiguous,” it is said in the press release.
The lawyers say their clients were arrested in a period of uncertain political developments in Moldova. “We want to warn the mass media that they should not contribute to disseminating speculations. Also, it is impossible to impartially cover this loud case based on information provided by the prosecution bodies and prosecutors. To prevent the further manipulation of the people, we note that the blame of Rusu Vladimir, Rusu Ion, Cijov Igor and Rosioru Tatiana hasn’t been proven so far,” they stated.
“As lawyers, we understand the increased interest of society in knowing the authors of the schemes designed to steal money from the BEM and realize the role played by the mass media in the investigation of these wrongdoings. But we are firmly convinced that the informing of the people and the discovery of the truth can take place only if the case is examined objectively and the norms of journalistic ethics and impartiality are respected. We reiterate that until the court passes an irrevocable decision, our clients are innocent and fully enjoy the guarantees provided by the presumption of innocence.”
