A nine-story apartment building in Rezina town will be reconstructed and the apartments will be provided to families with many children, young specialists working at budget-funded institutions, persons with disabilities and other people who cannot buy a home. The beneficiaries will be chosen by a special commission, based on applications submitted to the local mayor’s office, IPN reports.

Manager of the project implementation unit Iunona Lungul said the resistance structure of the building will be reinforced. The ceilings, walls and floors will be revamped. The block will be thermally insulated to make it more energy efficient. There will be built the wiring and water supply and sewerage systems.

Minister of Regional Development and Construction Vasile Batca, who paid a visit to the building site, said that by this project they aim to extend the national housing sector and to improve the relations of cooperation between the central and local public authorities.

To build social apartments, the Council of Europe Development Bank offers Moldova a loan of about €20.4 million repayable in 20 years.

About 700 social apartments for 2,500 beneficiaries will be constructed by the end of 2018.
