A boat with five persons on turned upside down on “Frumoasa” lake in Cahul town for unknown reasons. Two women aged 26 and 29 drowned.The incident happened in the evening of May 31.

Contacted by IPN, Diana Turcan, press officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, said the rescuers from Cahul were called by witnesses who were on the beach. But the two young women couldn’t be saved. Another three persons managed to swim out. The tourist station located near the lake had its own rescuers, but they were on the opposite shore and didn’t hear the cries for help.

After almost one hour of searches, the rescuers found the body of the 26-year-old woman. The second woman was found in the morning of June 1.

It’s not yet known if the persons on the boat were under the influence of alcohol. It hasn’t been yet established if the boat was rented or belonged to the young men.
