Body of newborn discovered in infanticide case
Police unearthed the body of a newborn baby buried two years ago by his mother in a village cemetery in Dubasari district. The location was shown by the 29-year-old woman herself, after she confessed and agreed to cooperate.
Dubasari Prosecutor Valentina Bradu told Info-Prim Neo that an investigation was started when reports appeared in the village that the woman had been pregnant. The woman later confessed that she delivered the baby in December 2009 in the storeroom of a shop, helped by the vendor. The two women drowned the baby in a container filled with water and buried the body the next day.
The body was found in a box at a depth of approximately 0.6 meters.
The woman has three other children and she is a single parent. Now the suspect and her alleged accomplice face up to 20 years in prison or even lifelong incarceration.
