The fire that started in a 16-story apartment building on Cuza-Voda St in Chisinau’s Botanica district was caused by tires that caught fire at the common balcony on the 12th floor.

Press Officer of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service Diana Turcan has told IPN that three special firefighting vehicles went to the scene and the fire was soon localized. There were reported no victims.

The firefighters checked all the apartments at the upper stories to see if somebody needed help as the fire caused a lot of smoke. An investigation is under way to establish if the tires were set on fire or they started to burn themselves.
