The executive approved a decision concerning the rationalization of public expenditure. A new body will be set up with a consultative role. The interministerial committee for rationalization of expenditure will be managed by the Ministry of Finance. The measures adopted by the committee will be implemented based on budget funds during the next few years and could not be put off for another period.
The committee will approve the memorandum and reference terms that will specify the ministries that will be subject to cost analysis. When each exercise to rationalize the public costs is finished, the committee will present the final report to the Government and the commission on economy, budget and finance for information.
An analysis will be carried out to see which of the costs should be rationalized. The expenditure rationalization process will be integrated into the annual budgetary process. This year, there will be examined the costs in higher and vocational education to see if the activities here are carried out efficiently.
The rationalization of public expenditure is an international practice that is implemented in such countries as Canada, the UK, France, Ireland, and Denmark, being recommended by the IMF.
