A man from Calarasi was sentenced to eight years in jail for beating his wife to death, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

In January 2013, being under the influence of alcohol, the 52-year-old man started to quarrel with his wife, reproaching her for abusing alcohol. He hit her with a cast-iron kettle in the head two times, causing her serious injuries. The woman died in the hospital several days later.

The man, who is a former convict, will serve eight years in prison for domestic violence. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
