After listing the results obtained during on year after his re-election as Chisinau Mayor, Dorin Chirtoaca said that there were still many problems to be addressed. “There’s always work to do in a household, but we made some steps forward for sure. They show our direction and goals”, declared the Mayor while presenting his yearly report, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It’s been 5 years since the local elections in 2007 and one year since the last local elections in 2011, years which have been difficult for Chisinau. Insolvency was avoided, the economic and financial situation was stabilized, important reforms were launched, achievements were obtained and important projects were started”, he said. Dorin Chirtoaca highlighted the maintenance of the municipality’s economic situation, the capacity to cover expenses from the city’s own resources and without taking out loans, and a budget increase of 20% since 2011 as his main achievements. Other results are the reconstruction, refurbishment and reopening of the Valea Morilor Lake, after the evacuation of 460,000 square meters of mud, the elimination of chlorine in the process of treating drinking water and the reconstruction of water pipes and sewerage networks. The city also bought 102 new trolleybuses. The purchase of radiologic equipment, municipal stipends for students and benefits for needy and disabled persons are ongoing projects. Dorin Chirtoaca went on to present a number of priorities for the next years, especially the attraction of investments and the implementation of public-private partnerships. In a week, the process of assembling trolleybuses at the Chisinau Electrical Transport Company will kick off. The public transport rehabilitation program will continue, as well as the repair of streets. A local road fund of 150 million lei per year will be created and will be used for continuing road modernization programs and increasing the road fund up to 500 million lei. Among other priorities, the mayor named the reorganization of the cogeneration system, more parking lots and refurbishing block courts. Liberal Party leader Mihai Ghimpu and other Liberal MPs attended the presentation of the report. The Liberal Dorin Chirtoaca was re-elected Mayor of Chisinau after he emerged victorious in run-off elections on June 19 one year ago. He was elected with 50.60% of the votes, as his contestant, Communist Igor Dodon, polled 49.40% of votes.
