Chisinau hosts Festival of Ethnic Groups Sept. 18
The eleventh Festival of Ethnic Groups themed “Unity through Diversity” will bring together representatives of 48 ethnic communities existing in Moldova. The central park of Chisinau will become a multinational city of songs, dances, and exhibitions of paintings, books and handicrafts on September 18, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Nina Stratulat, head of the Chisinau City Hall’s Interethnic Relations Division, throughout the day the representatives of the over 70 ethnocultural organizations will present the national culture and traditions. “The number of organizations that want to take part in the festival increases every year. This reveals the interest in promoting the own traditions, customs and the culture of the states that they represent,” said Nina Stratulat.
The Festival of Ethnic Groups will be opened in Europe Square at 10.30. Ethnofolk groups from Chisinau will give a concert on the stage installed near the fountain. Exhibitions will be mounted on the alleys of the public garden.
The eleventh Festival of Ethnic Groups forms part of the activities dedicated to 20 years of the proclamation of Moldova’s independence and of the foundation of the Bureau of Interethnic Relations. By tradition, the event takes place on the third Sunday of September.
