A prosecution officer of the Botanica Police Commissariat of Chisinau was put on probation for a period of four years for acts of corruption, IPN reports.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office established that in July 2010, when dealing with a case concerning the organization of illegal migration, the officer asked for US$1,500 from a citizen of Romania investigated as a suspect in this case for dropping the charges against him.
Several days later, when he was in his car, the culprit received US$1,900 as he asked for US$400 more later. The policeman was arrested by prosecutors and anticorruption officers immediately after he received the money.
Recently, he was given four years’ probation for passive corruption and was fined 6,000 lei, being also banned from holding public posts for a period of five years.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
