The Chisinau City Hall is announcing a public tender to buy new buses for the municipal fleet, with both national and foreign companies invited to apply, IPN reports.
The municipal authorities said in a note that this year’s city budget earmarks 20 million lei for the procurement of new buses. Iacob Capcelea, director of the Urban Bus Company, told IPN the amount will suffice for up to 10 vehicles.
“In ten years not a single bus has been bought for the residents of Chisinau. The fleet urgently needs to be renewed. Virtually all the buses in our fleet are past their useful lives. We would require at least 100 buses to renew our fleet and meet passengers’ needs”, says Iacob Capcelea.
Last time the municipality bought new buses, 14 in number, was in 2018.
