Chisinau’s best athletes awarded by Municipality

Chisinau’s best athletes and coaches in 2014 have been awarded today, December 23, by the Municipal Division for education, youth and sports (DGETS). The division chose 10 athletes and 2 rugby teams, while the sport federations nominated 90 athletes and coaches. The best students of the sports lyceums in Chisinau have also been awarded, IPN reports.

Valentina Cujba, DGETS deputy head, noted that the recipients of the awards had obtained top places at European and world championships. Those selected by DGETS received diplomas and 10000 lei each, while the rest received diplomas and 1000 lei each. “These are the fruits of year of hard work. The athletes from Chisinau obtained excellent results”, said Cujba.

DGETS’ select 10 include Stepan Dimitrov (1st place at the European Taekwondo Championships, seniors), Vladislav Arventi (3rd place at the European Taekwondo Championships, seniors), Dumitru Captari (1st place at the World University Weightlifting Championships), Sergiu Cechir (3rd place at the European Weightlifting Championships) and Oleg Sarghi (4th place at the European Weightlifting Championships).

The top 10 is completed by boxers Victor Ialimov and Victor Carapcevschi (3rd place at the European Boxing Championships), archer Dan Olaru(silver medal at the European Youth Outdoor Championships), Andrian Mardare (3rd place at the World Athleticism Championship) and Alexandru Chirtoaca (5th place at the world Wrestling Championships). DGETS also awarded both men’s and women’s rugby teams.

This is the 16th edition of the Sports Stars Gala.
