The Moldovans born before 1961 can apply to get indexed deposits they made at Banca de Economii till January 2, 1992. The indexation will start as from January 1 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Finance Ministry, the applications are tobe submitted till December 30,2008 at one of Banca de Economii's branches. At the first stage, the depositors receive by 1,000 lei according to the ratio 1 leu:1 Soviet ruble. The cumulative balance will be paid according to the ratio 1 leu:2.5 Soviet rubles, but only after all the depositors that had accounts in the Soviet Sberbank until 1992 take the first 1,000 rubbles indexed. 85 million lei are earmarked in the 2008 state budget to pay off the indexed deposits, as the Government plans to allocate some $142.2 million for the total indexation of deposits.
