City Hall has statues, but no place to install them
The bronze busts of Nicolae Iorga and of Alexandru Ioan Cuza given as gifts by the head of the Prahova county Council Mircea Cosma have no placement slot in the capital. On the one hand, architectural specialists have objections regarding their installation, on the other hand the Mayor of Chisinau insists they be installed by September 1, reports Info-Prim Neo.
Botanica district head Vladimir Guritenco said on Monday, during the City Hall meeting, that he had talked to architects and they have objections concerning the two busts, in particular saying that they are copies.
“In this case, we should remove everything we have on the Classics Alley, and the She-wolf should also be removed. Paunescu was brought from Cluj; Vieru was brought from Cluj, along with several copies. The people gave it to us, be it a copy or not, we are not that spoiled to demand only special treatment”, replied Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca.
Initially, Nicolae Iorga’s bust was supposed to be installed in the school that bears his name, but the district head says that there is one bust over there already. The Mayor proposed to identify a new place, or for the bust to be installed in some suburban institution.
As for the bust of ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza, it was supposed to be installed on the capital’s Cuza Voda Street, at the intersection with Sarmisegetuza Street, but the specialists objected to this option as well.
The Mayor insisted that services responsible for the placement of the two busts come up with an exact report on the two busts’ location. The Mayor insists that the busts be installed by September 1.
