CJI condemns Tiraspol’s "law" tightening measures against Journalists

The Center for Independent Journalism (CJI) condemns Tiraspol's so-called "legislative" initiative, which aims to undermine press freedom. CJI calls on the constitutional authorities to intervene immediately to stop the abuses, IPN reports.

CJI, along with other organizations, firmly opposes these actions by the separatist forces in Tiraspol, labeling them as abusive and illegal, specifically targeting journalists. The institution also highlights the inadmissibility of tolerating the so-called "legalization" of additional tools to suppress press freedom.

The so-called "bill" is part of a series of illegal and abusive actions by the separatist regime in Tiraspol against media representatives, CJI notes.

The new repressive measures proposed by Tiraspol include fines of up to 160 lei for individuals and between 300 and 800 lei for officials. The Promo-LEX Association points out that both freelance journalists and those employed by media institutions will be affected.
