“ClassFest” Festival to bring together 92 foreign participants in Chisinau

Owing to the war in Ukraine, four European theater schools gave up taking part in the “ClassFest” International Festival of Theater and Film Schools that will be held in Chisinau on December 5-9. In the current edition, 92 participants from other countries will put on plays on stages of Chisinau theaters. There will be mainly presented plays intended for adolescents and also a puppet play for children. Each troupe will perform in the language of their countries. Subtitling will be ensured for spectators, the Festival’s artistic director Svetlana Târțău told a news conference.

Victoria Melnic, rector of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, said that the permanent participant in the festival – “I. L. Caragiale” National University of Theater and Film – will not take part in the event this year, but the other theater schools of Romania, such as “George Enescu” National University of Arts of Iasi and the University of Arts of Târgu-Mureș, will be present. The festival will involve students from France, Poland and Austria. The Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts of Chisinau will present several plays. There will also be held creation workshops that will bring together students from the participating schools. “We invite you to performances and hope we will bring something interesting and valuable and you will see what the young generation of artists from our country and abroad is preoccupied with,” said the Academy’s rector.

Andrei Chistol, secretary of state of the Ministry of Culture, said the festival is a communication platform for young people from Moldova and from outside it. “It is extraordinary to have in Chisinau different schools of arts and theater with their experience, traditions and projects that they present here. This living communication between young people from the Republic of Moldova and those who come to this festival is appropriate and we will continue to support this extraordinary event,” stated the official.

The “ClassFest” International Festival of Theater and Film Schools is opened at the Luceafărul National Theater on December 5. The first play is presented by students of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts. Entrance to all the plays is free of charge.
