Code of Ethics bans teachers from accepting presents or money from students

The teachers must not accept money, presents or services from students and parents. This is provided in the Code of Professional Ethics that is to be implemented starting with the 2015-2016 academic year, IPN reports.

Under the Code, the employees of schools are banned from initiating or organizing the collection of money or presents. Among the activities that generate corruption are the imposition of textbooks that are not included in the renting scheme or auxiliary teaching aids, provision of extra-curricular activities for money, offering of presents or other favors.

The Code lays down mandatory rules of conduct and standards for all the employees of general and technical vocational education institutions and envisions the removal of inappropriate and immoral practices from the education sphere.

The document was drafted by a group of experts, at the request of the Ministry of Education, within the Youth for Transparency in Education Project that is implemented with support from UNDP Moldova.
