Collectible porcelain worth thousands of euros found inside bus coming from the UK

Collectible porcelain items that were not declared to customs officers were found in the luggage compartment of a bus coming from the UK at the Leușeni customs post. The goods had certificates of authenticity and were preliminarily valued at several tens of thousands of euros. The batch of porcelain was seized for further investigations, IPN reports.

According to the Customs Service, the driver of the "Mercedes-Scania" bus, a 35-year-old Moldovan citizen, said that he was carrying only unaccompanied luggage, all of which, according to him, were indicated in the customs declaration.

During the checks, customs officers discovered 24 porcelain items and figurines in the luggage compartment, packed in cardboard boxes and accompanied by certificates of authenticity. The goods were not indicated in the documents presented for examination.

The total value of the batch is yet to be determined, but the first estimates show that each piece costs €1,000 to €2,500.

The authorities are to establish all the circumstances in which the goods were introduced into the country, without being declared.
