Compensation for judges and prosecutors who commute

The state will compensate the commuting expenses for judges and prosecutors who travel to work in another locality, at a distance of at least 20 kilometers. However, this benefit will not be applied to those who come to work in the municipality of Chisinau. This is provided in a draft law that was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.

"The bill aims to support judges and prosecutors to continue their work in localities that are far from home, but also to increase the attractiveness of these positions at the local level, thus ensuring citizens' access to justice and the functionality of the judicial system in all localities of the Republic of Moldova," Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru stated in the Cabinet’s meeting.

Over the past few years, the Ministry of Justice received a series of requests from judges and prosecutors and, also from the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Superior Council of Prosecutors, to legally regulate the right of judges and prosecutors to have the commuting expenses covered.
