Competitor excluded from contest for filling vacancies on BCC

The parliamentary commission on culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media eliminated a competitor from the contest held to select a suitable candidate for the posts of member of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) as he does not meet the contest conditions. Gheorghe Corman is 64, but a BCC member should not be older than the retirement age according to the legislation, Info-Prim Neo reports. The commission also examined another contender. The commission’s head Chiril Lucinschi said candidate Alina Palii was 24 when she submitted the application, but a BCC member should be older than 25. Alina Palii will turn 25 on March 26 and will thus be 25 when the contest takes place, said deputy head of the commission Corina Fusu. Consequently, there will be 26 contenders, six of whom are women. Before being examined by Parliament, the candidates must obtain at least seven votes of the members of the commission on culture, education, research, youth, sport and mass media and the legal commission for appointments and immunities. The legislature will choose three of them. The Broadcasting Coordination Council is composed of nine members who are designated by the legislative body for a period of six years. The three posts were vacated by Camelia Albu, Valeriu Soltan, and Ruslan Plesca as their terms in office expired. They cannot run for a new term.
