Contrasting opinions about prospects of Moldova’s union with Romania

Supporters of unionism consider the union with Romania is the only chance for Moldova, while the opponents think the union will be a catastrophe. Contradictory opinions on the issue were stated in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

Constantin Codreanu, representative of the National Unity Bloc, said the number of supporters of Moldova’s union with Romania is on the rise. “We want only better living conditions and these will be ensured only if we unite with Romania. We intend to organize trips to Romania for ordinary people who never been there so that they see the difference. The union is inevitable,” he stated.

Colonel Ghenadie Cosovan, ex-deputy minister of the interior, also considers that the union with Romania represents a chance for Moldova. “When we fought in Transnistria in 1992, we thought that we will stop the imperialists and our brothers from over the Prut will then lend a hand to us. Regretfully, the Moldovan authorities betrayed us and not only once. They promoted anti-Romanian propaganda in the period. There is now Putin’s project “Novorossia”. We saw what happened to Crimea. The union is our only chance,” said the colonel.

On the other hand, Nicolae Pascaru, who heads the Movement “Voievod”, said the union with Romania would be a catastrophe because it would lead to a civil war. “A category of unionists aims for Bucharest, while another category aims for Moscow. What is the difference between these two categories? Why shouldn’t we keep our country? The number of Moldovans who want the union is very low,” he stated.
