The Ministry of Justice suggests creating a council for monitoring the implementation of the actions specified in the National Human Rights Action Plan for the next five years. The Premier will head the council, while the minister of justice and the minister of foreign affairs and European integration will act as deputy chairpersons, IPN reports.

In a press briefing on December 13, secretary general of the Ministry of Justice Anatolie Munteanu said the council will also include seven ministers, the Government’s secretary general, the heads of two parliamentary commissions, the president of the Superior Council of Magistracy, the president of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, the prosecutor general, the people’s ombudsman, the Bashkan of Gagauzia, the mayor of Chisinau municipality, the mayor of Balti municipality, etc.

According to Anatolie Munteanu, the National Human Rights Action Plan was approved by the Government and is in Parliament. The objective is for all the citizens, especially the vulnerable groups, to benefit from respect for the basic human rights, an appropriate legal framework and services that meet the international standards in the field. The document is designed to facilitate access to justice, to promote equality, to protect the rights of persons with disabilities and of national, ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities.

“The plan was worked out based on the recommendations formulated by the monitoring bodies of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and OSCEM,” stated the secretary general. He noted that financing from the national public budget and from the supplementary contributions of the international organizations and development partners will be allocated for implementing the planned actions.
