Couple dies from carbon monoxide poisoning in Varnița

A 76-year-old man and his 75-year-old wife were found dead in their house. The couple from Varnița village of Anenii Noi district allegedly got poisoned with carbon monoxide emanated from the heating boiler connected to gas, IPN reports.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that the call to the 112 Service was made on Sunday afternoon. Specialists preliminarily established that the valve of the exhaust chimney was closed. There was no fire in the house.

In this connection, rescuers urge the people to obey the safety rules when using heating sources, such as boilers, stoves or electrical appliances. In order to avoid poisoning with products of combustion, citizens are urged to clear the exhaust ducts.

It is important to periodically ventilate the rooms where fire is burning. Also, special attention should be paid to the elderly and lonely people, who need to be helped in the process of heating their homes.

The 20 cases of poisoning with carbon monoxide reported so far this year resulted in three deaths, and the injuring of 32 people, including 11 minors.
