Court of Appeals bans broadcasting of movie about sexual minorities on Moldova 1

The chairman of the Observers Board Eugeniu Rybka considers that the demands of certain social groups not to televise the movie “Human rights on the screen: rights of sexual minorities” represent interference in the editorial policy of the national public broadcaster Teleradio Moldova (TRM). “Not broadcasting this movie will mean yielding to the exerted pressure,” Eugeniu Rybka stated for Info-Prim Neo. The movie was to be broadcast on May 18. The Chisinau Court of Appeals made an order, banning its airing. The order can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice. “The movie must be televised because it concerns certain groups of our society. Under the law, we are obliged to cover the realities, as they are. The picture promotes the freedom of expression, the freedoms as regards conscience and religious beliefs,” said Eugeniu Rybka. The movie was made under a partnership between the German South East Media Network, the Committee for the Freedom of the Press and the public association Youth Generation. The public association For Family protests against the broadcasting of the movie on “Moldova 1” channel. The NGO earlier staged a protest on front of TRM, saying the picture defies morality and flagrantly violates the legislation of Moldova.
