A number of young people who have been defrauded by Petru Jitaru, director of a company that promised them workplaces in Canada and the U.S., protested in front of the Government Building, demanding that he be investigated in custody, not under house arrest, as the court decided, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We were swindled out of €1 500 to €3 000. Now the culprit is allowed to stay at home. We do no more trust our legal system. We have mafia everywhere. If Jitaru maintains he is innocent, why doesn’t he want to talk to us? Why doesn’t he tell publicly who is to blame for the fact that we remained without money?” asked protester Ana Axenti.
This is the third protest that the young people have staged so far. “There are about 200 young people who have been deceived. The number can be much higher. Some persons left everything, borrowed money and went abroad. Others work here, in the country, but did not come to the protest. We want justice to be done to us. Those to blame must be held accountable and we should get our money back,” said Ana Axenti.
The protesters chanted “Jitaru in jail!”, “Justice, Legality, Truth”, “The young people’s fate is decided by the mafia”.
In a news conference earlier, the young people said the director of the given company, Petru Jitaru gathered over €300 000 from about 200 persons, sold the firm and washed his hands of everything.
Initially, Petru Jitaru was arrested for 72 hours. On November 7, he was put under house arrest for 25 days.
