The Chisinau City Hall will launch public debates on the design of the Parochial House that is to be erected behind the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth”. The drafts will be published on the municipality’s official website.
In Monday’s meeting of City Hall officials, deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu presented two drafts of the design of the Parochial House. The first is for the construction of a six-story building. “Another variant was proposed as an alternative. As a metrical volume, this construction in the form of a semi horseshoe is smaller by height, but is wider,” he stated.
Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said the second variant of the design is for a much grater building. “I see a big difference between a Parochial House and this building. The initial construction is 5-10 times smaller than the varmint they proposed later. It is more like a palace. We must hold public debates so as to prevent a situation similar to that experienced at the Kentford building,” he stated.
The design will be examined by the divisions and will be then submitted to the Municipal Urbanistic Council and then to the National Urbanistic Council. The Council of Monuments will also analyze it.
In a meeting last May, Dorin Chirtoaca and his Holiness Vladimir, Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and all Moldova, discussed the construction of a new Parochial House instead of the one that existed behind the Cathedral until 1969, when the then authorities decided to set up the first water pumping point there.
The construction of the Parochial House was to be finished this May. The building wasn’t erected because the local authorities and the Metropolitan Church could not agree the design.
