The about 65 kilograms of hashish found at the Giurgiulesti-Galati customs post, at the entrance to Moldova, two days ago were brought from Spain and were to be smuggled into Russia through Moldova. In a communique, the Border Police says a Moldovan national aged 41 is being investigated in this case, IPN reports.
The joint team that checked the Audi A6 car registered in France traced about 65 kg of a compressed substance in the form of brown rectangular briquettes with a logo printed on them. These had been treated with a white powder to mislead the sniffer dogs.
According to the police, 1 gram of hashish on the internal black market costs about 100 lei, while in Russia - €25-35. Special investigation measures are being taken, including in cooperation with other states, to establish all the circumstances of the offence. The man faces 7 to 15 years behind bars over illegal distribution of drugs.
Earlier the police arrested a number of persons suspected of using the same itinerary to take drugs into Russia. In one episode, customs officers found almost 100 kg of contraband hashish.
