Dorin Chirtoaca presents progress report

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca on June 15 presented a report on the work done during a year of his reelection. He spoke about the accomplishments, objectives and the problems witnessed in the municipality. A number of people came to listen to the mayor’s report in Europe Square in the central park of Chisinau. Some of these applauded him, while others booed him, demanding that he should resign, IPN reports.

Among the accomplishments, Dorin Chirtoaca enumerated the assembly of 20 new trolleybuses, lighting of the road up to the airport, creation of 2,000 jobs, renovation of the surgical ward of Saint Trinity Hospital, repair of a number of kindergartens, setting up of over 1,000 garbage bins in the city and planting of 20,000 trees and bushes in Chisinau.

The mayor said there are yet many problems in the city, including street trading, illegalities in the building sector, flooding, corruption in the system, the insufficient parking lots, etc.

Dorin Chirtoaca also spoke about the future plans. According to him, a priority for the immediate future is to finish the reconstruction of the streets Vasile Alecsandri, Constantin Negruzzi and Stefan cel Mare si Sfant. They also aim to meet the deadline for putting the Chisinau-Truseni water pipeline into operation and to ensure access to Humulesti village of Chisinau municipality.

After the mayor presented the report, a number of sympathizers of the Party of Socialists came together in front of the Chisinau City Hall, demanding that Dorin Chirtoaca should vacate his post. Also, the Party of Socialists held extensive discussions on the dismissal of the mayor.

Dorin Chirtoaca was chosen mayor of Chisinau in 2007. In 2015, he was reelected for a third term in office.
