Ex-Speaker of Parliament Dumitru Motpan was buried on June 25. In the morning, his coffin was laid at the Palace of the Republic, where everyone could bid farewell to him. Later the funeral procession went to the Central Cemetery situated on Armeneasca St in Chisinau, IPN reports.

Dumitru Motpan was Deputy Speaker of Parliament in 1994-1997 and Speaker of Parliament in 1997-1998. He was a member of Moldova’s first Parliament and a signatory of the Declaration of Independence. He was awarded the Order of the Republic.

Speaker Andrian Candu, the MPs and the members of the Parliament’s secretariat transmitted their sincere condolences to the families, relatives, friends, colleagues and all those who knew and appreciated him.

Dumitru Motpan died on June 23 at the age of 78.
