Education employee suspected of arranging fictitious drafting into military service

An employee of the Soroca Education Division is investigated by the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) in a case of influence peddling. He is suspected of having asked for and received sums of money to facilitate the passing of exams and fictitious drafting into military service, IPN reports.

According to the NAC, the official asked for 8,000 lei and €100 from the mother of a student, assuring that he can influence employees of the Agricultural Technical College in Soroca. In exchange for the money, these were not to register the student's absences and to allow him to pass the exams in absentia.

At the same time, the suspect allegedly asked for and received €750 to arrange the young man's formal drafting into military service and obtaining the military permit, without him fulfilling his legal obligations.

The NAC and prosecutors of Balti municipality carried out searches at the office, home and in the car of the employee of the Soroca Education Division, and relevant evidence was seized.

The investigations continue to establish all the people involved.

The authorities remind that any person is presumed innocent until a final court judgement is passed.
