Starting June 7, cars with green powertrains will receive green license plates. Only cars with zero CO2 emissions fall into this class, namely pure electric vehicles or those using hydrogen fuel cells, IPN reports, with reference to the Public Services Agency.

Green license plates will be awarded to both new electric vehicles and those that were already registered. Owners of already registered electric vehicles, if they want, can request the replacement of standard plates (with black numbers) with green ones.

The plates with non-personalized green numbers cost 550 lei, while the plates of one’s choice, from the stock of already executed plates, is twice higher. Changing the plates from standard into green license plates by keeping the registration number costs 550 lei.

“Green number plates will be a distinctive feature of electric vehicles, helping to better identify them in traffic and promote sustainable mobility. The measure is part of the efforts of the Government of the Republic of Moldova to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change,” said the PSA.

The State Register of Vehicles of the Republic of Moldova currently includes more than 3,000 electric cars.
