Prosecutors indicted an employee holding an executive post at the Bender Document Issuing Section based in Varnita. Prosecutor Viorel Morari has told IPN that the employee is accused of abuse of power. He admitted that the people from the left bank of the Nistru were obliged to present additional documents and to make informal payments when they applied for different documents, including the nationality of Moldova.

The culprit faces a fine of up to 8,000 lei and up to three years’ imprisonment. The investigators haven’t yet determined the exact number of affected persons.

Other employees of the section are also under investigation. On November 20, prosecution officers performed searches at the offices and homes of these employees, where they found conclusive evidence.
