Functionaries of the Ministry of the Interior, the Customs Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the ICT Ministry as well as a judge are investigated for smuggling. They are suspected of forming part of a criminal group that registered in Moldova luxury vehicles stolen in the EU, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the Ministry of the Interior, during 12 searches carried out at the homes of the suspects, there were found 40 adapted tools for punching license numbers and license plates for different types of vehicles. The police established that 112 vehicles were brought into Moldova by avoiding customs procedures and registered here. The damage caused to the state was assessed at 16.8 million lei. Two suspects were put under house arrest, while the others are at large. They face three to ten years behind bars for smuggling.
