3500 hectares of forest have been planted so far as part of the National Afforestation Campaign. Environment Minister, Sergiu Lazarencu, assures that by the end of the year the goal of afforesting 4000 hectares will be reached. The minister made the statements during a meeting with the directors of forestry enterprises in the country, IPN reports.

According to an Environment Ministry press release, during the talks, the minister stressed the importance of improving the planting process, based on the experience of the past years, and set the following objectives to ensure effective implementation of the National Program for Forest Expansion and Rehabilitation.

"I will closely monitor each stage of this project and will support forestry enterprises in providing the necessary resources to achieve the set objectives", said Minister Sergiu Lazarencu. According to the Environment Ministry, the measures are part of the Ministry's commitment to protect the environment and contribute to the expansion of forest areas.

Under the National Afforestation Campaign, launched on November 16, more than 26 million saplings are expected to be planted across the country, with a target of planting 4,000 hectares of forest by the end of 2024.
