European officials praise BCC for aligning itself to European standards

European Commission representatives welcomed the efforts of the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) to meet the European standards, especially the Audiovisual Media Services Directive. The assessments were made in the meeting of the Moldova-EU Cooperation Committee and Subcommittee No. 4 on “Energy, Environment, Transport and Telecommunications, Science and Technology, Public Health, Culture and Education,” Info-Prim Neo reports. They also approved of the results achieved after implementing the strategy for covering the national territory with audiovisual program services for 2007-2010, the strengthening of the BCC’s work capacity by actively involving the new administration in achieving the institution’s objectives and of the improvement of the editorial policy of the national public broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova. In the meeting, the BCC spoke about the recent developments in the mass media sector of Moldova as regards licensing, monitoring of the content of the program services provided by broadcasters, the work done to implement the media component of the Democracy Support Program in Moldova and the steps that the Council takes during election campaigns. The representatives of the European Commission recommended that the BCC should provide more attention to the principle of transparency and the state secret.
