A series of events will be held on April 26 to commemorate victims of the Chernobyl disaster and of other nuclear accidents. The Government today established a committee in charge of the events.
The committee will be headed by Defense Minister Eugen Sturza and members include state secretaries, representatives of local authorities, of the NGO “Moldova Chernobyl Union” and of other organizations.
The series of events includes thematic meetings in schools and military units, photography exhibitions, and offering of material aid to the families with members that were disabled after participating in cleaning up the site of the disaster.
The Chernobyl nuclear disaster occurred in April 1986, and some 3,500 people from Moldova helped to deal with its consequences. 2,023 survived to this day.
