The buffalo meat imported from India can be eaten, said Grigore Porcescu, vice director of the Sanitary-Veterinary and Animal Products Safety Agency, when asked about the results of the examinations.
The Association of Meat Importers said earlier that the EU does not allow importing buffalo meat from India because it can be dangerous for health.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov said that the Sanitary-Veterinary Agency’s specialists inspected the abattoir in India and identified no irregularities.
As many as 30 tonnes of buffalo meat have been recently brought into Moldova.
The Romanian press reported that in 2012 India became the third largest exporter of buffalo meat, surpassing the U.S. Brazil and Australia are leaders on this market.
