Falling Chisinau trees are 80 years of age
The eight trees that were downed in Chisinau by the strong wind during one day and the bushes that fell in the recent past unexpectedly made the Green Spaces Association to start implementing a project to restore the green areas, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the Association's head Eliferie Haruta, most of the trees in Chisinau are at least 80 years of age so that they are seriously affected by the scorching heat, sudden changes in temperature, the lack of surplus of humidity and the strong wind. Apparently, the trees are green and healthy, but they are rotten inside. Thus, they yield over time and pose a real threat to the Chisinau residents.
Eliferie Haruta said the green areas in Chisinau must be immediately assessed and renewed, but there is no money and specialized equipment for this. The Green Spaces Association is now allowed to use only three derricks whose working life is 8-10 years.
Haruta stated he will discuss the issue with officials of the Ministry of the Environment and the Botanical Garden and ask them to help inventory the trees in Chisinau.
