Fate of Chisinau Circus to be decided next week

The court is to decide the fate of the Chisinau Circus on June 6. Two former employees filed a lawsuit, demanding that the Circus’ administration repays a debt of 14,000 lei to them. If the debt is not settled by June 6, the court may order selling the building. The head of Chisinau’s Rascani district Mihai Carlig has told Info-Prim Neo that the issue is within the remit of the Government and the Ministry of Culture, but they do nothing and the Chisinau City Hall and the Rascani district head’s office are thus ready to take steps to resolve the dispute. “We took measures to lay out and clean the area around the Circus. The City Hall paid all the debts for water and electricity. If the competent bodies do not act, this building of national importance may be lost. The Chisinau administration repeatedly asked the Government to transfer the Circus under municipal administration as it is able to clear the debts and reconstruct the building,” said Mihai Carlig. The Circus is a joint stock company where the Ministry of Culture is the majority shareholder. According to specialists, at least 100,000 lei is needed to restore the Circus.
