The Congress of the Filmmakers Union has chosen a new president. Film director Sergiu Prodan was voted in by 80 votes for, of the 125 persons attending. The other candidates who applied for this post were directors Valeriu Jereghi, Virgil Margineanu, and Nicu Scopran. Until now the position was held by Eugen Sobor.
Sergiu Prodan has told IPN that he intends to do a number of reforms. He will more insistently promote the Cinematography Law that was passed by Parliament in the first reading. “There are yet a number of ambiguities and the law is to be examined in another reading. This law guarantees the independence of the state body that will regulate filmmaking,” said the director, adding that the making of movies must be supported by the state.
Currently, Sergiu Prodan heads the company “Atelierul Sergiu Prodan Pr & Publicitate”.
The Filmmakers Union has about 200 members.
